Merit Landscape/Hardscape: McGovern Centennial Gardens Hermann Park
For years, 15 acres of Hermann Park sat idle. So in 2007, the Hermann Park Conservancy began planning to create a new space, the McGovern Centennial Gardens.
The main entry to the gardens is through the 8,000-sq-ft
Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion, constructed of glass with an
angled, open central wall of dark granite and a ceiling of
glowing stainless steel. Teams collaborated on the park’s
unique 30-ft mount, a spiraling sidewalk and waterfall and
created an earthen ramp to aid in construction of the mount.
As work finished, crews tore down the ramp so the waterfall
feature could be constructed.
