Originally constructed in 1951, this 12-story former hospital—now a research lab—sustained significant damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Crews performed multi-phased renovations to meet current seismic safety requirements and improve the building’s functionality and also carried out extensive demolition and abatement and constructed or reinforced 29 shear walls and performed shell upgrades.
The construction team overcame hurdles to locate the existing shear walls and excavate the slab-on-grade to reinforce existing foundations.
