Contracting giant Parsons Corp., Pasadena, Calif., announced April 17 that it has signed a merger agreement with 3D/International, the Houston-based construction management and design firm. Terms of the agreement were not released but 3D/I will become a Parsons subsidiary.

The deal was announced by Chuck Harrington, president of Parsons Commercial Technology Group, and Chuck Thomsen, chairman of 3D/I.

3D/I is a nationally respected leader in the design, condition assessment, and construction management of educational and public buildings and their systems, says Harrington in the Parsons statement. Its reputation for innovation will make an important contribution to the Parsons family of companies.

Thomsen says 3D/Is board has approved the deal but it remains subject to a shareholder vote, set for May 12. Parsons will provide many additional skills to offer to our existing clients, he says, in a statement. No additional details were released

Parsons reported revenue of about $3 billion in design and construction revenue in 2005; 3D/I had close to $100 million.
