The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' New Orleans District intends to issue on Jan. 20 a request for proposal for the construction of three flood control structures to act as opening gates on New Orleans' 17th Street, London Avenue and Orleans outfall canals. The contract may be awarded as a single contract for all three structures or as a multiple award contract for a structure at each outfall canal. The projects are to be completed before the beginning of hurricane season in June. The estimated construction cost for each flood protection structure is between $20 million and $35 million, or a total between $60 million and $105 million for all three structures.
