An international consortium, led by Paris-based Vinci Construction Grands Projets and including Germany’s Hochtief A.G., is building the world’s longest bridge, from Qatar to Bahrain. The newly signed, $3-billion turnkey contract calls for a 40-km-long, two-lane causeway with 18 km of embankment plus 22-km viaducts. The bridge has two 400-m-long, cable-stayed sections and should be complete in 51 months.
