Concrete casting for the world’s tallest building, Burj Dubai, ended on Nov. 8, with the structure reaching the 156th level, about 601 meters above its basement level. The tapering three-winged tower has 430,000 sq m of structural walls that were cast, with floors, in climbing formwork requiring 32 layout changes, claims equipment supplier Doka Industrie GmbH, Austria. About 500,000 tonnes of steelwork, including the spire, will complete the tower’s unspecified height. It was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Chicago, for locally based Emaar Properties.
