Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) doesn't want another extension of the federal terrorism insurance program. He said at a Feb. 28  hearing that “a more permanent federal commitment” is  needed. But the panel’s top Republican, Richard Shelby (Ala.), said, “in the long run, the most durable solution will in all probability come from our private sector.” The program lapses Dec. on 31 if not renewed.
