Home » Blaze Ruins One of Madrids First Towers 2/21/2005
One of the Spanish capitals first high-rise buildings was wrecked during a two-day fire ending Feb. 14. The blaze, which caused no injuries, is believed to have started two-thirds up the 106-meter-tall Windsor Building, in Madrids center. The fire stripped away many of the steel perimeter columns, exposing the 11 x 14.4-m concrete core. Completed on a 40 x 26-m footprint in 1979, the building is enclosed in a glass and aluminum skin, says David Franco, a member of Alas Carvajal Casariego, the building's local architect.
