Maj. Gen. Carl A. Strock will be nominated to be the Army's next Chief of Engineers and commanding general of the Corps of Engineers, the Dept. of Defense announced March 22. Strock, 55, is the Corps' director of civil works at its Washington, D.C., headquarters.
If confirmed by the Senate, Strock would be the Corps' 51st chief, succeeding Lt. Gen. Robert B. Flowers, who plans to retire later this year. Flowers, who has been the chief since October 2004, is believed to want to have a departure ceremony in July. John Paul Woodley Jr., the assistant Army secretary for civil works, has said he would like to have a formal change of command for the Corps at that ceremony.
