Contract Award Expected in June for Tampa Reservoir Repair
In June, Tampa Bay Water expects to select either Granite Construction Co., Kiewit Infrastructure South or Skanska USA Civil Southeast as the design-build-maintain contractor for the cracked C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir. Ranging from $120 million to $170 million, the three recently received bids are to repair the soil-cement erosion-control layer and expand the reservoir by about 40%. Notice to proceed for permitting is scheduled for Sept. 1, with a construction start anticipated a year later. About 12 months after its 2005 opening, cracks began forming in the 15.5-billion-gal reservoir, designed by HDR Engineering and built by Barnard Construction.
