The Launch Box Blog, New York “Shooting in black and white, I felt, would allow me to focus on the shape and form of what has been photographed without being distracted by color,” says Heckscher. He took this shot of the Second Avenue Subway tunnel-boring machine near 92nd Street with a Canon PowerShot G11 camera at f2.8 and a Manfrotto monopad. Using a flash was prohibited so as not to disturb the sandhogs starting the machine's second drive.
