CALIFORNIA Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla is seeking statements of interest for seismic retrofit work for approximately 500,000 sq ft of active hospital space. Cost is estimated between $50 million and $100 million, and work is scheduled to start in July 2010. FLORIDA Miller Sellen Conner & Walsh has been selected by developer Liberty Property Trust to handle the planning and civil engineering for a new 500,000-sq-ft warehouse building in Orlando. GEORGIA Dunwody-Sams Trust is seeking rezoning and other approvals for the proposed Founder’s Pond at Rivoli to be located at 5646 Rivoli Dr. in Macon. WYOMING ENSR was selected by the Bureau of Land Management to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for a major new wind energy project proposed by the Power Company of Wyoming on 98,000 acres in the Rawlins and Carbon county areas. The 1,000-turbine wind-energy project on the two sites would provide 2,000 MW of power to the national electric power grid. Contracts/Bids/Proposals

CALIFORNIA-UTAH The California Dept. of Transportation awarded a $43-million contract to Granite Construction Co. for reconstruction of five miles of Interstate 80 through the Truckee River Canyon, 20 miles west of Reno, Nev. The project includes 80,000 cu yd of concrete-paving removal and replacement, as well as drainage improvements, barrier rails and asphalt paving from Floriston to the California-Nevada state line. Construction is anticipated to start in May, with an estimated completion date of September 2011. Granite also was awarded other contracts for highway and site preparation work. Work is well under way on three contracts totaling $29.7 million, awarded by Bernards Brothers Inc. for the site work for a new educational facility at Minarets High School in Madera County. Work involves site preparation, underground utilities, building foundations and site concrete work. Completion is scheduled for December 2009. A $39.2-million contract awarded by the California Dept. of Transportation for widening of a 10-mile stretch of Highway 395 in Inyo County includes construction of two new lanes and the rehabilitation of the two existing lanes, as well as a single-span concrete bridge. Completion is targeted for June 2010. The Utah Dept. of Transportation awarded a $26-million contract for the reconstruction of an existing one-mile section of Riverdale Rd. in Weber County. This project includes the addition of a new lane in both direction and reconstruction of the bridge and Interstate 84 interchange. Completion is targeted for May. Granite Construction Co., 585 W. CONNECTICUT Groundbreaking ceremonies were recently held for 360 State St., a 32-story, 700,000-sq-ft mixed-use development project in New Haven. Suffolk Construction was selected as the construction manager by developer and architect Becker + Becker for the $180-million project, which consists of the redevelopment of the former Shartenberg Department Store, to include 500 apartments with 50 affordable units, retail space, parking garage, and an early childhood education center. The project also has been selected as a pilot project for the LEED Program for Neighborhood Development, and will include green features such as photovoltaic arrays, recycled and local materials, and a fuel cell. FLORIDA A contract to build the new $14-million Fine Arts Hall at Santa Fe College in Gainesville was awarded to Danis Building Construction Co. Located at 3000 N.W. 83rd St., the 36,000-sq-ft facility will feature a 600-seat theater, 100-seat recital hall, classrooms and a three-story black box auditorium. FLORIDA Construction is under way on a new mixed-use retail and parking facility for the City of Punta Gorda. Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is the general contractor selected to build the project, which includes a four-level, 409-space parking garage with ground-floor retail space and roofed stair towers rising above the top parking level. KANSAS Oldcastle Precast Modular has begun work on a project to provide 248 precast concrete cells, as well as supplying and installing the furniture at the Fort Leavenworth Regional Correctional Facility. As part of the Base Realignment and Closure Program for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Oldcastle is working with J.E. Dunn Construction for the new $150-million, two-story correctional facility, which will consist of 483 beds, including a warehouse, engineering and maintenance building and a covered vehicle storage area. The medium-security general housing unit will consist of 200 cells and the maximum-security single housing units will consist of 48 cells.
