ALABAMA The Westervelt Co. is planning to build a wood-fuel-pellet plant , which will produce 250,000 metric tons of pellets per year. It will be located on a 104-acre site adjoining the Tenn-Tom Waterway on Highway 17 near Aliceville. The project’s initial phase will entail construction of the main plant building, a new barge loading facility and several auxiliary structures to house process equipment and raw materials. A possible second phase will include demolition of the former Huyck Felt Plant building and an expansion of the main plant. The owner expects to select a contractor by September. Construction is expected to start later this year and be completed in early 2012. No construction cost estimate is available at this stage. The Westervelt Co., 1400 Jack Warner Pkwy. PENNSYLVANIA The Quakertown Community School District is planning to renovate Quakertown High School . The project will entail overhauling the heating and cooling systems, building four new state-of-the-art science labs and moving the library to an area currently occupied by a courtyard. The project also includes making the building ADA compliant and more secure by moving the administrative offices to the front of the building. The design work is being done by The Architectural Studio of Allentown. The project is expected to take four years because it will be done while the school is occupied. Construction could begin as early as the fall of 2012 and be completed in 2016. The estimated construction cost is $60 million.
