Connecticut Choate Rosemary Hall, a private school, has selected Shawmut Design Group to build the Kohler Environmental Center in Wallingford. The 31,818-sq-ft timber-and-fieldstone building will be constructed northeast of campus on 266 acres of undeveloped land, which will serve as an outdoor lab and classroom. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2012. The building was designed by Robert A.M. Stern. The project goal is LEED Platinum certification. It will be solar-powered and feature energy monitors and other technology to track and conserve energy. The estimated construction cost is $20 million.
