ARIZONA The Arizona Dept. of Transportation has selected Kiewit Western Co. to provide design-build services for state Route 101 from I-10 milepost 1.0 to Tatum Boulevard milepost 31.0. The project includes new HOV and general- purpose lanes, widening of three existing bridges, and sound and retaining walls. The estimated construction cost is $149 million. COLORADO The Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources has selected PageSoutherlandPage to provide architectural and engineering services for the Gunnison Discovery Center and Office Complex . The project comprises three buildings. The 10,000-sq-ft office complex will contain the department’s offices and customer-service section for the Southwest region. The 13,000-sq-ft Discovery Center includes a visitors center and classroom. The 1,700-sq-ft hunter education building will contain an indoor shooting range. FLORIDA The Florida Dept. of Transportation District 7 has selected Volkert & Associates Inc. to provide design services for the resurfacing of the six-lane divided rural section of U.S. Route 19/state Route 55 from New York Avenue to the Hernando County line in Pasco County. The project includes designated bike lanes, additional sidewalks and upgrades to signalized intersections. The estimated construction cost is $12 million. MINNESOTA The Minnesota Dept. of Transportation has awarded a $125.3-million design-build contract to a joint venture to build the Trunk Highway 169/Interstate 494 interchange in Bloomington. The project entails converting the existing Highway 169 expressway into a freeway by the elimination of three stoplights. The joint venture is led by C.S. NEVADA The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada has selected Frehner Construction Co. to provide construction management-at-risk services for a bus rapid-transit system along the Sahara Avenue corridor. The project includes construction of rapid- transit facilities, conversion of 21 lane-miles of existing shoulders to bus-only lanes, signal upgrades at 27 locations and median channelization at 47 breaks. TEXAS The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an $8.4-million firm-fixed-price contract to Reliable Contracting Group LLC to build a new bulk fuel storage facility at Biggs Army Airfield, located at Fort Bliss in El Paso. UTAH The Utah Dept. of Transportation has awarded a $114-million construction- management/general-contractor contract to Copper Hills Constructors for the second segment of the Mountain View Corridor in western Salt Lake County. Copper Hills Constructors is a joint venture led by Granite Construction and includes Kiewit and W.W. Clyde. The project entails construction of approximately 6.5 miles of roadway from Old Bingham Highway North to 5400 South. Work will include signalized intersections and recreational trails. WASHINGTON The City of Bellingham Public Works Dept. has selected Mortenson Construction to provide construction-management/general-contracting services forimprovements to the Post Point wastewater treatment plant. The project includes a chemical facility to enhance solids removal, modifications to the primary effluent and return activated sludge pump stations and a new anaerobic selector basin. OREGON 2/17 Clackamas County Fire District No. 1 is seeking statements of qualifications from architectural firms to make recommendations about facility design and other requirements. NEW YORK 2/17 The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking bidders to rebuild the Queens approach and interchange of the Bronx Whitestone Bridge. The project entails constructing new mini-pile foundations, concrete piers and a steel-girder/concrete-deck superstructure as well as staged demolition of the existing superstructure and piers. HAWAII 3/3 The City and County of Honolulu is seeking bidders to build a new odor-control system at the Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project entails building a new odor monitoring system that will use real-time electronic sensors to identify failure or malfunction of key odor-producing treatment processes and enclosures. The project includes the enclosure of the dewatering building’s truck bay, installation of ventilation systems and rerouting the primary sludge line to provide the option of bypassing the dissolved air flotation thickeners and conveying the sludge directly to the digesters.
