MARYLAND The U.S. General Services Administration is planning to build a new office complex in Baltimore to house 1,600 employees of the Social Security Administration. The complex will be comprise a five-story building and a seven-story building totaling 538,000 sq ft. The complex will be on an 11.3-acre site on Wabash Avenue next to the Reisterstown Plaza metro stop. The project also includes a 1,076-space parking garage. The estimated construction cost is $150 million. The JBG Cos. will be the developer and Clark Construction the general contractor; AECOM is the designer. MICHIGAN The GEO Group, a private prison operator, is planning to renovate and expand their North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin. The project will convert the facility's existing dormitory housing units to 832 additional cells, bringing the total capacity to 2,580 beds. GEO has selected Granger Construction as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in January 2011 and be completed by the end of 2011. The estimated construction cost is $60 million.
