MARYLAND The U.S. General Services Administration is planning to build a new office complex in Baltimore to house 1,600 employees of the Social Security Administration. The complex will be comprise a five-story building and a seven-story building totaling 538,000 sq ft. The complex will be on an 11.3-acre site on Wabash Avenue next to the Reisterstown Plaza metro stop. The project also includes a 1,076-space parking garage. The estimated construction cost is $150 million. The JBG Cos. will be the developer and Clark Construction the general contractor; AECOM is the designer. MICHIGAN The GEO Group, a private prison operator, is planning to renovate and expand their North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin. The project will convert the facility's existing dormitory housing units to 832 additional cells, bringing the total capacity to 2,580 beds. GEO has selected Granger Construction as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in January 2011 and be completed by the end of 2011. The estimated construction cost is $60 million. FLORIDA Sarasota County has selected Malcolm Pirnie Inc. to provide engineering services to upgrade and expand the Carlton water treatment facility. Required work includes an electrodialysis reversal equipment, an overall potable-water systems integration study, a preliminary design report and permitting. The project will expand the facility's capacity to 15 million gallons per day. The estimated construction cost is between $15 million and $30 million. IDAHO Engineered Structures Inc. has been selected by the State of Idaho, Division of Public Works, as the general contractor for a new four-story, 118,000-sq-ft building at the Boise State University College of Business and Economics. The project includes classrooms, computer labs, student commons and food services. The project also includes the demolition of an existing motel building. PENNSYLVANIA The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Brayman Construction Corp. an $11.9-million contract for phase-one construction of the Dover Dam safety assurance project . Phase one includes the installation of 36 multistrand anchors in the spillway section of the dam, to secure sections of the impoundment structure to bedrock. PENNSYLVANIA The Pine-Richland School Board has awarded a $35-million contract to Kusevich Contracting Inc. to expand Pine-Richland High Schoo l in Gibsonia. The project entails building two extensions. The first is a two-story, 90,000-sq-ft extension that will provide space for science, math and technology classrooms. The other is a single-story, 7,000-sq-ft extension for administrative offices. The project also includes roof repairs. The schedule calls for completion in 2012. TEXAS Texas A&M University, College Station, has selected Skanska to provide construction management-at-risk services for the renovation of Olsen Field. WASHINGTON The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected Vet Industrial to provide design-build services for a 40,877-sq-ft Company Operations Facility at Fort Lewis. The project includes associated hardstand, site improvements, demolition of two existing buildings and replacement of utility infrastructure. The project goal is LEED Silver certification. FLORIDA 11/30 The University of South Florida is seeking proposals for design services for the renovation of the 250,000-sq-ft Sun Dome Arena and Convocation Center.
