OHIO The Portage Area Transportation Authority plans to build a multimodal transportation center in Kent. The Kent Central Gateway Project will be a two-story, 300-ft by 150-ft building that will include bus bays, parking and 18,000 sq ft of potential retail, restaurant and office space. The proposal will be issued in December, with construction expected to begin early next year. It will open in October 2012. The estimated construction cost is $25 million. CALIFORNIA The Solano Transportation Authority has selected Quincy Engineering Inc. to provide project management services for the Jepson Parkway and Redwood Parkway-Fairgrounds Drive improvements. CALIFORNIA The Orange County Transportation Authority has selected Transportation & Energy Solutions to provide CM-at-risk services for the Tustin Metrolink station parking structure. COLORADO The National Park Service has awarded a $12.1-million contract to PCL Construction Services Inc. to build a visitor and research center at Mesa Verde National Park. The project entails building a highly energy-efficient one-story, 23,620-sq-ft building. It will feature tight construction to prevent air infiltration and provide strict climate control for the preservation of over three million artifacts. FLORIDA The Florida Dept. of Transportation has selected Wilbur Smith Associates to provide construction, engineering and inspection services for state Route 228 in Duval County. The project includes Pine Street to the four-lane area; intersection with McClelland from the four-lane area to the curb and gutter area. The estimated construction cost is $22.4 million. MONTANA The Wyoming Transportation Commission has awarded a $22.7- million contract to Oftedal Construction Inc. to reconstruct the seven-mile-long Rosie’s Ridge section of U.S. 26-287 east of Moran Junction. The project will include adding turning and passing lanes and, for wildlife crossing the highway, safety improvements: The Black Rock Creek bridge will be lengthened to give wildlife more room to cross beside the creek, and a separate wildlife underpass will be built. OREGON The Ontario School District has selected CM Co. to provide construction management services for new construction and renovation projects at the Ontario Middle School and Ontario High School as well as upgrades to five elementary schools. OREGON The Coquille Valley Hospital has selected The Neenan Co. to provide design-build services for a 42,000-sq-ft to 45,000-sq-ft replacement to the existing hospital. WASHINGTON The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded a $51.9-million contract to a joint venture, Watts-Granite, to build a 2.1-mile-long security fence at U.S. Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, which is home to Trident missile nuclear submarines. The project entails building an 11,300-ft-long fence system, featuring two chain-link fences with a gravel zone between them, as well as lighting, sensors, cameras, a patrol road and entry control points. WISCONSIN The University of Wisconsin has awarded a $250-million contract to a joint venture of The Boldt Co. and AMEC to convert a coal-fired powerplant to biomass. The joint venture will provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the installation of a new biomass boiler as well as two new gas and ultra-low-sulphur distillate-fired package boilers to replace the existing gas-fired units.
