GEORGIA Walton Construction Inc. has been awarded a $13.6-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct a vehicle recovery course at Fort Benning. The project entails building eight miles of paved tank trail, a general instruction building, a 3,300-sq-ft vehicle maintenance building, mire training stations and a low water crossing.  The project is expected to be completed by September 2011. LOUISIANA Cajun Constructors Inc. has been awarded a $14.5-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for construction of a continuous line of hurricane flood protection across the discharge basin at Belle Chasse No. 2 Pumping Station on the east side of the Algiers Canal in Plaquemines Parish. TEXAS The University of Houston has selected Tellepsen to provide construction management-at-risk services for the school’s Health and Biomedical Science Facility. The project includes a six-story building containing an ambulatory surgical center, animal care and clinical facilities, laser center and research laboratories. The project is valued at $57 million. UTAH Salt Lake Community College selected SBS Architects to provide construction management/general contracting services for the Center for New Media. The project includes 105,500 sq ft of new space and 17,250 sq ft of renovated space at the South City campus. Also included is demolition of the existing Auto Trades Building at the Redwood Road campus and the east lobby, cafeteria and annex at the South City campus. Construction cost is $22.4 million. VIRGINIA The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Vetco Contracting Service LLC a $15-million firm-fixed-price contract to design and construct a child development center at Fort Belvoir. WASHINGTON The Washington state Dept. of Transportation selected KPFF Consulting Engineers to provide engineering services for the SR 99 Tunnel South Portal Ground Removal and Replacement Project. The project includes removal of unsuitable ground and replacement with engineered fill for construction preparation. Construction cost is $35 million to $50 million.
