CALIFORNIA Harper Construction Co. Inc. has been awarded a $56.1- million firm-fixed-price contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for design and construction of a physical- conditioning recruit barracks, a recruit training barracks and a sports-medicine and reconditioning-therapy clinic at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. The two barracks will house a total of 1,729 Marines and will include company offices and laundry facilities. The project is expected to be completed by May 2011. Harper Construction Co. FLORIDA Turner Construction Co. has been awarded a design-build contract by the city of Jacksonville for the Duval County Courthouse. The seven-story 800,000-sq-ft facility will serve as a combined civil and criminal courthouse. The building will include courtrooms, judges chambers and offices. GEORGIA CH2M Hill Facilities and Infrastructure Inc. was awarded a $16.7-million firm-fixed-price contract by the Savannah district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for repairs to trainee barracks at Fort Benning. The project entails repairs to Building 2754, which is 80,790 sq ft. The repairs include new roof, windows, fire protection, interior walls, doors, floor finish, ceilings, plumbing, HVAC, electrical upgrade, hazardous- material abatement and landscaping. HAWAII M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates has been awarded a $22.5-million contract by the U.S. General Services Administration to design a two-phase renovation of the Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse Campus in Honolulu. Phase one includes an electrical substation and rehabilitation of the 136,000-sq-ft courthouse. Phase two includes renovating the nine-story, 600,000-sq-ft federal building. LOUISIANA Boh Bros Construction Co. LLC was awarded a $7.9-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build two breakwaters to protect Duncan Canal Pumping Station, located in Kenner. The concrete and steel breakwaters each will be 200 ft long, 110 ft wide and 14 ft high. They will be located 150 ft to 200 ft offshore and will be connected to shore by a bridge. MARYLAND The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. has been awarded a $181-million firm-fixed-price contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for the design and construction of support facilities for the Warrior Transition Unit at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda. The work includes construction of a new bachelor enlisted quarters, and dining and admininstration facility, physical-fitness center, parking garage and restoration of the complex’s Building 17 facade.Work is expected to be completed by August 2011. NEW JERSEY Archer-Western Contractors has been awarded a $20.2-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for a combined Navy aircraft intermediate maintenance department and Navy aviation supply department facility at Fort Dix. In addition to the buildings, the contract will provide a concrete supply-equipment lay-down yard, a canopy- covered concrete storage area and roadways. NEW MEXICO Kinley Construction, Inc. was awarded a $10.3-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build a new offload facility at Kirtland Air Force Base. The project includes installing new equipment for four offload positions, with new fuel pumps for the fillstands and new piping between the fuel offloads and the pump-house. Two existing 25-million-barrel fuel tanks will be demolished and two new 40- million-barrel tanks will be built; Also, new piping installed to the pump house. NEW YORK The New York City Transit Authority has awarded two projects to WDF Inc., that entail renovation of eight train stations on the IND line, located in Rockaway and Far Rockaway in Queens. The project includes complete demolition and restoration of the platforms, new windscreens and canopies, and refurbishment of the token booths. OKLAHOMA Walton Construction Co. LLC was awarded a $30.4-million firm-fixed-price contract for construction of a Defense Logistics Agency general purpose warehouse at Tinker Air Force Base. VIRGINIA Balfour Beatty Construction LLC has been awarded a $61.6-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for a joint regional correctional facility complex at Naval Support Activity, Northwest Annex, in Chesapeake. The project entails boring a two-lane, 41-ftdia, 3,389-ft-long tunnel, the fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel, carrying State Route 24, the William Byron Rumford Freeway. CALIFORNIA 9/16 (prequalific­ations)—San Diego County Water Authority, 4677 Overland Ave., San Diego, 92123, dams and appurtenant structures. The project entails raising the existing 220-ft-high San Vicente Dam by 117 ft, placing 600,000 cu yd of roller-compacted concrete, constructing a 45-ft-high saddle dam, a new 200-ft-high outlet works tower and a 300-ft-long, 12-ft-dia tunnel.
