SOUTH CAROLINA Sintra Corp. has announced it plans to build the Long Savannah Plantation mixed-use development near Charleston. The 3,050-acre site off Bees Ferry Road will include 4,800 homes, ranging from low-income units to grand estates. A village area will consist of two-story buildings with offices or shops on the first floor and residential units on upper floors. The town center will include a school and church. ARKANSAS Branco Enterprises Inc. was awarded a $21.1-million contract by the city of Siloam Springs for a renovation and addition to its existing 4.4-milliongallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant. The first phase, to reduce phosphorus levels, includes four structures: a biological nutrient-removal basin, a splitter basin, a waste-activated sludge structure and an electrical building. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009. The second phase involves two new clarifiers and will be completed by November 2010, when capacity will be increased to 5.5 mgd. FLORIDA Clancy & Theys Construction Co. was awarded a $15.6-million contract for the 117,000-sq-ft Partnership III Building at the University of Central Florida. GEORGIA Turner Construction Co. was awarded a $93-million design-build contract by the Centers for Disease Control for a 311,000-sq-ft office complex. The project, designated as “Building 24,” is located adjacent to CDC headquarters in Atlanta and is targeted to achieve LEED Gold certification. TEXAS The Korte Co. was awarded a $20.8-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the design and construction of the Armed Forces Reserve Center at Tyler, Texas. WASHINGTON Barnard Construction Co. has been awarded a $29.8-million contract by the Grant County Public Utility District to further stabilize the post-tensioning anchoring system of 15 bays in Wanapum Dam. The dam is located on the Columbia River downstream from Vantage, Wash. Barnard is designing 585 prefabricated stop logs with Schnabel Engineering and Knight Construction.
