TENNESSEE Norfolk Southern has announced it will build an intermodal rail terminal in Rossville. The facility, estimated to cost $129 million, will transfer freight containers between trucks and trains and occupy a 570-acre site. The terminal will be linked to Norfolk Southern’s existing east-west line by an overpass to be built at State Route 57. The terminal is part of Norfolk Southern’s Crescent Corridor initiative, aimed at increasing capacity and improving efficiency between the Gulf Coast and the East Coast. ALABAMA Anderson Construction Co. was awarded a firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the design and construction of a military training facility in Montgomery. The Air & Space Basic Course Combat Arms & Marksmanship Training Facility will be located at Maxwell Air Force Base. The project includes an 84-position firing range, acoustic control systems, target construction facility, classroom facility and extensive site development. CALIFORNIA HOK and Parsons Brinckerhoff have been awarded a contract by the Anaheim City Council and Orange County Transportation Authority to design an intermodal transportation hub in Anaheim. The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center will be a 66,000-sq-ft structure with a 180-ft archway, rail tracks, platforms and parking, and will be expected to meet LEED- Platinum standards. UTAH Big-D Construction was awarded a $26.3-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of an aircraft maintenance facility at Hill Air Force Base. The project will include a seven-dock hangar, a 9,780-sq-m maintenance facility, and associated taxiways. Completion of the F-22 heavy-maintenance and composite back shop is expected by July 2011.
