FLORIDA Skanska USA has been awarded a contract by the Nemours Foundation to provide construction-management services for the new Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando. The 630,000-sq-ft project will feature a 395,000-sq-ft hospital with a 95-bed in-patient tower, emergency department, diagnostic and ambulatory programs as well as education and research centers. These facilities will be integrated with an outpatient clinic also located on the 60-acre site. The project will include a 600-car parking garage and a helipad. The project’s owner intends to seek LEED certification. Site work began in June, and completion is scheduled for June 2012. The contract is valued at $220 million. MASSACHUSETTS The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority has selected Stantec to design the rehabilitation of the West Roxbury Tunnel, a major sewer tunnel in Boston. The 12,500-ft-long, 84-in.-dia tunnel is severely corroded and will have to be rehabilitated or replaced. It is located at depths to 220 ft and has limited points of access. Stantec will perform an examination of the tunnel’s conditions and will evaluate various strategies for rehabilitation and realignment. Additional work includes traffic control, hazardous-materials handling, surveying and other related services. The project valuation is estimated at $16 million.
