KENTUCKY The Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources has awarded a $3.2-million stream-restoration design project to AMEC, the largest such contract ever awarded by the agency. The project covers the restoration and enhancement of Puncheon Creek and Fishing Creek and their tributaries in central Kentucky. The contract calls for AMEC to perform data collection, project design, construction inspection and oversight as well as coordination with the state’s Historic Preservation Office. The majority of the work will focus on Puncheon Creek, where severe erosion is causing landslides and lowering the quality of the water. AMEC will lead the design of channels to redirect and slow the stream’s flow, as well as direct the placement of wide strips of trees to combat the erosion.
