CALIFORNIA Robert R. Coffee, Architects & Associates has been selected as the architect by the city of Newport Beach, and gkkworks selected as construction manager for construction of a new 35,000-sq-ft senior center in Newport Beach. Designed to meet a LEED Silver rating certification, the $21-million, three-building complex, known as the OASIS Senior Center, will replace an existing facility on the same 4.92-acre site. The anticipated bid date to select a general contract is expected in late January, and construction is expected to start in March and be completed in 19 months. Robert R. TEXAS Design is under way by HKS for the Dallas County Jail Medical Modernization-Phase 2 located at 600 Commerce St. in Dallas. The estimated $40-million project includes 120,729 sq ft of renovations to three floors of the existing tower and a new single-story 22,000-sq-ft addition. Bidding is possible by April 2009. CALIFORNIA Turner Construction Co. has been awarded a contract valued at $280-million to provide preconstruction and construction services for the Knight Management Center for Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in Stanford. The new eight-building, 360,000-sq-ft facility will include a 600-seat lecture hall, dining facilities and classroom space, and a 900-space underground parking structure. The environmentally sustainable project will seek to achieve a LEED Platinum certification. Construction of the parking facility is under way, and construction of the seven additional buildings is expected to start in March 2009. FLORIDA Lillibridge has been selected by Health First to develop a three-story, 76,000-sq-ft medical office building in Brevard County. Located on a 50-acre campus at Viera Health Park in Viera, the new facility will connect to the new 100-bed Viera Hospital and Pro-Health & Fitness Center via a pedestrian courtyard. MASSACHUSETTS A $29-million contract was awarded to Suffolk Construction Co. Inc. by Suffolk University to renovate the facade of the Modern Theatre building in Boston.
