Madrid-based global contractor FCC Group has named a Mexican economist, Carlos M. Jarque, as CEO. He replaces Juan Behar, who is set to leave the firm at the end of September. Jarque had been executive director of corporate, government and international relations at America Movil, a telecommunications giant in Mexico that FCC says is “the largest private company in Latin America.” The appointment comes a year after Mexican billionaire mogul Carlos Slim acquired a $25.6% stake in FCC. Slim’s family also controls America Movil, according to Reuters. Jarque is the first non-Spaniard to head up a large Spanish contractor, the news service says. International work made up more than half of the construction unit’s sales in 2014, FCC Chairman Miguel Jurado told ENR. Jarque also previously held high-level Mexican government roles.
Evelyn Henry Miller has joined Dallas contractor TDIndustries as chief financial officer. She had been in the same role at Agencies of Change, a marketing agency for mid-sized firms also based there. Miller also had been CFO at The Dallas Morning News from 2002-2009, presiding over financial restructuring that included $100 million in cost cuts, according to D Magazine, which named her one of its “top corporate finance pros” in 2012. TDIndustries ranks at No. 27 on ENR’s list of The Top 600 Specialty Contractors, with $433 million in 2014 mechanical contracting revenue. “The CFO of the future will be, and is now, more of a chief strategy officer than a financial manager,” she said in an April interview.
