Under the Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program, DFW Airport's Terminal B North Stinger project expanded the terminal by 10 gates. Work included demolishing 80,000 sq ft of 7-in. concrete paving and asphalt and placing new pavement. To allow for phase two of civil work, the aircraft taxi lane had to be rerouted. This allowed adjustments to the pavement grades around the new building and made way for drainage and new construction on the first level.
That consisted of 12,500 sq ft of demolition and new 18-in. aircraft-rated paving, with 63,000 sq ft of new topping paving, placed on the existing tarmac. Crews coordinated work around operational taxi lanes and aircraft and gate schedules, which required close collaboration with the control tower, the Airfield Operation Center and American Airlines.
