Award of Merit, Industrial/Manufacturing: South Central Utility Plant at Baylor Medical Center
MEDCO Construction completed the $29.9-million South Central Utility Plant at Baylor University Medical Center in January 2012.
The 24,843-sq-ft, two-story structure serves as a supplemental facility to the existing north campus plant. The new building includes two 2,400-ton chillers that tie into the existing underground chilled water loop. It also houses three 2,000-kW high voltage emergency power generators that tie into the Baylor campus' 13.2-kV emergency power loop. In addition, there are two 1,750-kW high voltage emergency generators dedicated to the two chillers. Beneath the facility are three 30,000-gallon underground fuel storage tanks.
