George Heery: Building Contractual Bridges

Posted: 3/5/2007

In Engineering News-Record's March 5, 2007, Progressive Project Delivery issue, George T. Heery's Technical Viewpoint explains a new hybrid delivery system he calls Bridging/CM. The project delivery method combines bridging with construction manager at-risk, thus enabling owners to lock in an early enforceable price. In an online conversation with ENR New England Bureau Chief William Angelo, Heery discusses the hybrid system's benefits.

Chairman and CEO of Brookwood Program Management, Atlanta

George T. Heery is an internationally recognized leader in both the construction program management and architectural professions. In the mid-1960s he was one of a handful of American design and construction professionals who led the development of the new profession of construction management and construction program management. Construction Program Management is often referred to as Program Management. In 1983, after working for several years to develop a new way to organize the roles of architects, engineers and contractors, he helped develop Bridging, a hybrid of traditional Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery that reduces risks, costs and post-construction problems for project owners.
