We recently announced which firms operating in the Northwest have participated in the annual Contractors Survey. Now, ENR Northwest is proud to announce our first Contractor of the Year in nearly a decade: GLY Construction.

The firm is among those most respected in the country and Washington state, where it performs nearly all of its work. The Puget Sound Business Journal named the firm among its, “Top Companies To Work For.”

The firm also is honored by independent judges for its work, including an ENR Northwest 2015 Best Project office/retail mixed-use award or Vulcan 44, Amazon headquarters, Seattle. The firm also nabbed a 2016 Washington AGC Award for Vulcan 43, Allen Institute, Seattle.

In 2017, the firm is expected to start work on new mixed-use facility for Google in South Lake Union.

Since 2014, GLY Construction has been building the 1.5 million sq ft addition to Kemper Development's Bellevue Collection, including a new 32-story tower with 700,000 sq ft of office space and a 41-story hotel and residential tower. Excavation involved more than 485,000 cu yds of Earth. Nearly 3 million lbs of rebar were used in the 10-ft-thick foundation.

The first mat pour for the south tower in January 2015 was the largest continuous mat pour in Washington state. The firm broke their own record a month later on the second mat pour for the north tower. Completion of this project will begin in stages in late 2016 with final completion in 2017.

But it’s not all work for the firm. They also support dozens of community groups and charities. The Alzheimer’s Association is a notable beneficiary, and volunteers turn out for annual fundraisers, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the recent Longest Day celebration.

We will have much more on the firm in the August issue of ENR Northwest.
