Last month, ENR Southeast previewed this year’s upcoming Top Design Firms ranking, with a preview of the roughly 100 firms that participated in the annual survey, which you can see here.

In addition to facilitating our annual ranking, the Top Design Firms survey also is the first step in ENR Southeast’s research efforts to determine the Design Firm of the Year. By looking at the revenue that firms report via the survey, we’re able to see which firms experienced stand-out business success during the proceeding year. We then typically nominate a pair of firms for the recognition, with ENR editors from across the country determining the “firm of the year.”

This year, ENR editors have selected Orlando-based TLC Engineering for Architecture as the Southeast Design Firm of the Year. While certainly not the largest company on this year’s ranking, the engineering firm recorded one of the largest year-over-year percentage increases among this year’s top 25, notching a 29.7% overall gain.

Some of that improvement is coming from its involvement on a host of major contracts for numerous health-care systems, including Florida Hospital Celebration Health Patient Tower, All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Lee Memorial Health Systems, Winter Haven Hospital, Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville, and Tampa General Hospital TLC Engineering for Architecture is also active in the transportation sector, with assignments including the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach stations for All Aboard Florida’s Brightline passenger rail system, as well as work at Tampa and Orlando’s international airports.

ENR Southeast will provide readers with more information about this year’s Design Firm of the Year in its upcoming May print edition.
