URS Corp., San Francisco, is moving the headquarters of its Washington division from Boise, Idaho, to Denver by the end of 2010, according to industry sources. The Washington division is the latest incarnation of the legendary Morrison Knudsen Corp., which started in Boise and is best known for building the Hoover Dam, the Kennedy Space Center and the trans-Alaska pipeline. The Idaho office currently employs 500 people.
The market is generally healthy and steadily growing, and margins are up for large specialty contractors. Further, advances in design tools and owner demand for collaboration are giving subcontractors a seat at the table early on in projects.
