AECOM Unveils Management Team To Take Over After the URS Deal Closes

Maj. Gen. Richard L. Stevens is named U.S. Army deputy chief of engineers and deputy commander of the Corps of Engineers, the Dept. of Defense said on Sept. 2. He will replace Maj. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, who will be deployed to Afghanistan for an as yet unannounced assignment, said the Army. Stevens was Corps deputy commander for military and international operations. No successor was announced. Semonite was deputy chief since 2012.

In a Sept. 2 note to employees, AECOM President and CEO Michael S. Burke announced new executive appointments that will take effect after the firm's $4-billion deal to acquire URS Corp. closes in October. Frederick W. Werner is named group president of design and consulting services; he is now AECOM chief growth officer and president of its Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) region. Thomas W. Bishop will lead the combined firms' design and consulting services work in the Americas; he is now executive chairman of URS operations in Europe, the Middle East and India. AECOM COO and Americas region president Jane Chmielinski will retire in March. Steve Morriss, now AECOM CEO in Europe, will lead EMEA region design and consulting. Sean Chiao, previously named to take over on Oct. 1 as CEO of AECOM's Asia-Pacific region, will lead the combined firms' operations there. Also, in a newly formed construction services group, Daniel P. McQuade, current AECOM building services chief and former CEO of its Tishman Construction unit, now is president of building construction. George Nash, now president of URS' energy and construction division, becomes president of energy, infrastructure and industrial construction for the larger firm, which includes URS' Canada-based oil-and-gas division, formed through a 2012 acquisition. John Livingston will continue as CEO of AECOM Capital, the firm's project investment arm. In addition, Randy Wotring will be group president of management services, a new unit that combines the URS federal services division and AECOM's global support services group. Michael J. Donnelly will be president of the firms' new end-markets group that Burke says will collaborate on business development, major account management, thought leadership and government relations with the four operating groups. Donnelly now is AECOM CEO of global support services. "We expect to be operating as one unified company by January 2015," Burke says.

Louis Berger has named Neil Callahan a vice president and manager of its water and waste resources division. The new role follows the Morristown, N.J., firm's Sept. 2 acquisition of that unit, which Callahan had headed, from Leidos Engineering, to boost its own water practice.

Adolfson & Peterson Inc., Minneapolis, has hired Rick Whitney as CEO. He succeeds Doug Jaeger, who stepped down in December. Interim CEO Steve Pinney continues as chairman. Whitney was president and CEO of M+W U.S. Inc. Adolfson & Peterson is ranked at No. 92 on ENR's Top 400 Contractors list.
