This much needed highway reconstruction provides the residents and businesses of North Salt Lake with an improved transportation system to help promote further growth in the community. Before the project, traffic volumes on the I-215 and Redwood Road interchange were so high that vehicles were often at a standstill, resulting in traffic jams that stretched back onto the highway. The new diverging diamond interchange greatly improves traffic flow through the intersection.

During design, the project team worked with the North Salt Lake community to plan for future growth along Redwood Road while keeping in mind existing businesses and their needs. For example, after meeting with business owners along Circle Point Drive, the team changed the design to allow left turns onto the business access road. Commitments made to area businesses through the environmental and design phases were carried through to construction. Exceptional care was taken to maintain business access across the corridor, even while construction traffic shared the busy intersection with more than 40,000 motorists a day.

The project pioneered the use of Sundt Construction Analytics, a safety app developed to provide live feedback. The data generated by the app helps recognize positive behaviors and identify hazardous trends, and the information was used to enhance safety throughout the project.
