The 2016 update of the American Institute of Steel Construction standard “Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic Applications (ANSI/AISC 358-16)” has nine prequalified beam-to- column moment connections, or four more than the 2010 edition and seven more than the original 2005 standard. Work on additional connections is underway, says AISC. The connections included in 2016 are the reduced beam section; the bolted stiffened and unstiffened extended end-plate; the bolted flange plate; the welded unreinforced flange welded web; the Kaiser bolted bracket; the ConXtech ConXL; the SidePlate; the Simpson Strong-Tie Strong Frame and the double tee.
