The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation has completed environmental studies and is proceeding with preliminary design and funding planning for the Interstate 40 Winston-Salem Western Loop, currently estimated at nearly $1.1 billion. Part of the Winston Salem Northern Beltway, this 14.8-mile western section of the future four-lane expressway will be let in a series of projects. Construction is expected within the next decade. Robins & Morton, Cumming, Brownstone is starting construction in November on the $225-million Medical University of South Carolina’s Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Women’s Pavilion project in Charleston. The 10-story, 628,000-sq-ft project will include construction of a 200-bed hospital, additions and modifications to the central energy plant, a parking garage and connecting infrastructure. South Carolina

Brasfield & Gorrie is leading construction of the $200-million Lexington Medical Hospital Tower project in West Columbia. The eight-story, 550,000-sq-ft health care facility will feature a masonry exterior. The project team expects to complete the 70-bed project by 2019.
