Standing as a centerpiece at Auburn University’s Jordan-Hare Stadium is one of college football’s largest video boards. Measuring 190 ft wide by 57 ft tall, and containing 700 tons of structural steel, the video board is 435% larger than the one it replaces. To complete the modification project in just over six months, the project team opted to bolt together the steel frame in the field—using an estimated 57,000 bolts—instead of welding the structure. Designed to withstand 95-mph winds at almost 200 ft above ground, the structure rests upon a foundation comprising six 7.25-ft-thick pile caps constructed of 10,000-psi concrete mix, all supported by 46 micropiles measuring at least 35 ft in depth and embedded 15 ft into bedrock.
