Greg MellaGreg Mella has been promoted to director of sustainable design at SmithGroupJJR’s Washington, D.C., office. Mella was project architect for the world’s first LEED Platinum building, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Philip Merrill Environmental Center in Annapolis, Md. He also worked on the foundation’s Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach, Va., one of only 11 buildings worldwide to receive full Living Building Challenge certification.


Jeff Lindley has been named associate executive director and chief technical officer at the Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Transportation Engineers. Lindley, who will begin his new job on Oct. 17, will replace Philip Caruso, who will remain with the institute on a part-time basis. Lindley spent 31 years with the Federal Highway Administration, where he had been associate administrator for safety and, most recently, associate administrator for operations.


J. Glenn Ebersole Jr.J. Glenn Ebersole Jr. has been named market development manager for High Concrete Group LLC, Denver, Pa. Ebersole is responsible for brand awareness and social media and also will develop markets for architectural precast and other precast products, the firm says. He previously was strategic vice president for business development/marketing for Hollenbach Construction Inc., Gilbertsville, Pa.


Diana MendesDiana Mendes has joined HNTB Corp. as senior vice president and transit/rail practice leader. Mendes, who is based in Arlington, Va., is responsible for strategic planning and business development, among other duties. For 20 years, she was an instructor for transit professional development courses sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration and the National Transit Institute.


Rick Thompson Jr. has joined LEO A DALY as vice president and managing principal and will lead the company’s Washington, D.C., office. Thompson had been national director of project performance for AECOM’s buildings and places practice.


Henkels & McCoy Inc. has promoted Bryan Ellis to vice president of power in the firm’s East region. Based in Philadelphia, Ellis will oversee a territory that includes Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, the District of Columbia, West Virginia and Virginia.


Loring Consulting Engineers has appointed Oleksa Breslawec as vice president in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.


Darrell Guyton, vice president of specialty contracts at Frederick, Md.-based Morgan-Keller Construction, was named to the board of trustees at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.


Obituary

Francis Xavier McGeady of Severna Park, Md., died after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 77. McGeady, chief engineer for Corman Marine Inc., Baltimore, worked at ports in Baltimore; Hampton Roads, Va.; Wilmington, Del.; and Philadelphia. He was one of three principals at Corman’s successor firm, Martin G. Imbach Inc., starting in 1967. McGeady also presented papers to groups that include the American Association of Port Authorities. A graduate of University of Pennsylvania, McGeady simultaneously held professional engineer and registered architect licenses in Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Building Fund, Severna Park, Md., or the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute Alumni Fund.
