It may go down as “the biggest little project” ever undertaken by The Christman Co. The Lansing, Mich., firm is providing construction management and logistics support for the Hemingway Document Restoration Workshop Project. Enabled by the U.S. government’s 2015 authorization of the exportation of building materials to Cuba, Christman said this spring that the first of four supply shipments was on its way. “While relatively small in nature—a 2,500-square-foot new building—given the uncharted current construction market in Cuba, we needed to package and send every nut, bolt, screwdriver, staple, piece of lumber…you name it,” says Ron Staley, vice president in charge of Christman’s historic preservation group.
