Metro Elevator Co. partnered with Susan G. Komen to launch the ninth installment of its national Ride the Pink Elevator campaign. The event took place at 1500 Canal St., site of The Jung Hotel Redevelopment project, in conjunction with a fundraiser reception at the Joy Theater on April 20. It is the first Pink Elevator campaign in New Orleans. The goal is to raise funds and awareness within the construction industry for breast cancer programs and services across the country. The McDonnel Group, general contractor on The Jung Hotel project, installed Metro Elevator’s bright pink construction elevator and pink-ribbon counterweight on the building’s exterior. The firm expects the elevator to remain up through November.
A team from EMJ Corp. joined the Dallas area Habitat for Humanity on April 23 to support “Build a Better Dallas” for the fourth year in a row. The team spent the day building a house for a local family. The project was behind schedule when EMJ’s 21-person team arrived. In one day, the group completed decking on the roof, exterior corner siding, waterproofing of windows and felting on the deck. By the end of the day, the project was nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. Sandra Johnson (center) is pictured with the EMJ team. She and her two children will move into the house after it is completed.
