Vocational truck engine: Debut at Work Truck Show

Cummins introduced a new line of mid-range truck engines at the Work Truck Show, held on March 1-4 in Indianapolis. The L9 engines are available in ratings from 260 hp to 380 hp, with 720 lb-ft to 1,250 lb-ft of torque. The new 2017 model is rated at 350 hp, with 1,150 lb-ft of torque, and is designed for vocational-truck duty cycles. The engine is able to deliver more power and torque over a wider rpm range, improving overall performance.

Exhaust After-Treatment: Simplified Package

The Mack ClearTech One exhaust system fits an entire diesel after-treatment system into a single unit, saving space on the truck chassis’ frame rail. The unit contains a diesel particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction technology and a diesel-exhaust fluid-dosing system in the same package. By saving space along the frame rail, vocational trucks can have more chassis-mounted equipment or even larger fuel tanks. The unit is also 15 lb lighter than the two-piece earlier model. ClearTech One will be available on Mack Pinnacle and Mack Granite trucks in August 2016.

Dump truck: Removable Spreader for Year-Round Use

The Municipal Dump Spreader combines a dump body with a traditional spreader, resulting in a truck that can be used year-round in multiple applications. The truck is available in lengths of 10, 12 and 14 ft, with 36-in. sides and a 4-in. tailgate. The body is made of heavy-gauge 304 stainless steel for greater corrosion resistance. The stainless-steel conveyor cover plate and spreader assembly are removable, allowing the dump truck to be used for more demanding jobs.

 Redesigned chassis-Cabs: New PTO Options

Ram Trucks announced at the Work Truck Show that its 2016 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis-cab trucks will have a full range of power take-off options. Higher-power demands of truck-mounted equipment are driving greater need for PTO options, and Ram has widely expanded its offerings. The trucks are available with either a 6.4-liter HEMI gas or 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine. The PTO is capable of delivering 60 hp of power and 250 lb-ft of torque when using the Cummins engine, a best-in-class performance, according to the manufacturer.
