Australia The Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation is planning to build a nuclear medicine molybdenum-99 manufacturing plant. The plant will be located in Menai, about 25 miles southwest of Sydney. The plant will include special shielded cells for the processing to ensure operator safety and systems to ensure gaseous emissions are safely controlled. Molybdenum-99 is used to produce technetium-99, a medical isotope used for diagnosing heart disease, cancers, and kidney and gastrointestinal tract disorders. Merrick & Co. will serve as the consulting engineering firm. Construction is expected to start in 2014, with production scheduled to begin in 2016. Brazil Honda plans to build an assembly plant in Itirapina, about 120 miles north of São Paulo. The plant will produce compacts, with the first cars coming off the assembly line in 2015. China BASF is planning to build a resin plant in Shanghai. It will have a production capacity of 100,000 metric tons per year of high performance resins and electrocoat. It will be located in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, adjacent to a BASF automotive coatings plant, which is under construction. Construction of the plant is expected to be completed in late 2015. Kuwait The Kuwait Ministry of Health is planning to expand Farwaniya Hospital. The expansion entails constructing a building containing 465 patient beds, a large emergency room, surgical units, outpatient clinics and an oncology unit. The project is valued at $300 million. Saudi Arabia The Jeddah Development & Urban Regeneration Co. is planning to develop the Heart of Jeddah, a 210-acre mixed-use community. It will encompass luxury hotels, an exhibition center, retail spaces, a business district, residential towers flanked by canals, a multi-modal transport hub, a man-made lake with an interactive water fountain, luxury homes, schools and mosques. RNL Design is the master planner. KDC Development (KAIZEN) is serving as the project manager. The project is valued at between $5 billion and $10 billion. Vietnam A joint venture of Chiyoda Corp., JGC Corp., Technip, GS Engineering & Construction and SK Engineering & Construction will engineer, procure and construct the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Thanh Hoa Province. The greenfield refinery will have a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day. It will be designed to process Kuwaiti crude and will include an integrated aromatics complex and polypropylene production. The owner is Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC, a joint venture formed by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., Kuwait Petroleum Europe B.V., and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. Brazil Odebrecht Real Estate Developments has started building the Vitrium Smart Medical Center in Brasilia. The project entails constructing a 189,000-sq-meter building. The project will be executed in five overlapping phases, with the first phase, encompassing 75,000 sq m, being completed in 2016. Mexico Honda has started construction of a transmission plant in Celaya, about 150 miles northwest of Mexico City. Saudi Arabia Saudi Aramco has awarded a $966 million contract to Siemens to supply components for a 4,000 MW power plant in Jazan. The integrated gasification combined cycle plant will supply electricity to Jazan Industrial City and to a refinery.
