Colorado Vail Valley Medical Center is planning to build a new medical office facility with an underground parking garage. Massachusetts The New England Conservatory of Music plans to construct two new buildings on its Boston campus. The job entails the construction of two 10-story buildings, a student life/performance center and an academic center, totaling 140,000 sq ft, at the intersection of Saint Botolph and Gainboro streets in the East Fenway neighborhood. The buildings are being designed by Ann Beha Architects, with Gensler Boston as associate architect. The project recently was approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and construction is expected to begin in 2013. The project is valued at between $25 million and $50 million. Minnesota The Minnesota Dept. of Transportation is planning to build the St. Croix Crossing Bridge, spanning the St. Croix River between Stillwater and Oak Park Heights, Minn. and St. Joseph Wisconsin. The project entails building a 5,100-ft long, four-lane, cable-stayed bridge. Construction of the drilled-shaft river piers is expected to start in late spring, 2013. The project includes the conversion of the Stillwater Lift Bridge to a bicycle and pedestrian crossing, constructing three miles of four-lane highway on Highway 35 Wisconsin and reconstructing about three miles of Highway 36 and Highway 95 in Minnesota. North Carolina Sheetz, Inc., a gas station/convenience store chain, is planning to build a food production and distribution center in Burlington. California USS Cal Builders has started construction of Encinitas Community Park. Ohio Kokosing Construction Co. has started work on upgrading the City of Springfield's wastewater treatment plant. The project entails the construction of a new, 100-million-gallon-per-day high-rate treatment facility, including an excess-flow interceptor structure, final settling basin-flow splitter and primary digester as well as modifications or upgrades to the aerated grit building, digester control building and processed-sludge storage building. The EPA-mandated upgrade is due to the raw sewage overflow into the Mad River during heavy rains. The project is expected to be completed in 2014. The project has been valued at $50.1 million. Pennsylvania The Walsh Construction Co. has started construction of the new headquarters building of the Defense Logistics Agency in New Cumberland. The project entails the construction of a four-story, 265,000-sq-ft building that will consolidate 900 employees from six buildings into one complex. The building will contain offices, conference rooms, a cafeteria, an auditorium, a videoconferencing center and computer center with raised flooring. The project goal is LEED Silver certification and will include energy-efficient lighting and equipment, use of natural light, rainwater harvesting, extensive use of recycled materials, a green roof, photovoltaic panels on the roof and increased insulation.
