BNSF’s Chihuahuita Connection Aids El Paso, Border Infrastructure
The new BNSF Railway’s Chihuahuita Connection benefits the railroad, the Chihuahuita area, the city of El Paso and rail customers using the El Paso/Juarez border gateway.
The Chihuahuita Connection began operating in June. In conjunction with a rail-highway grade separation project in Juarez, programmed by Mexico’s Transport and Communications Ministry, the connection is expected to reduce freight congestion at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The BNSF Chihuahuita Connection was a joint effort of the Texas Dept. of Transportation, the city of El Paso and BNSF. The project used ARRA funds and private contributions.
