he Colorado Dept. of Transportation has several projects completed, others already under way in southwest Colorado, and others getting started throughout the summer. A few of the projects are being continued from last season, and others include a final phase next season.


“Altogether, we will have more than 110 miles of highway, bridges and intersections under construction, totaling nearly $80 million in project contracts—some spanning two seasons,” CDOT Region 5 Director Kerrie Neet said. “We have several projects that will improve or replace poor bridges and a few long-anticipated projects that will resurface vital stretches of highway.”


Here is a list of already completed projects or ones that will be under way this summer/fall in CDOT’s Region 5, which covers the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel, Montrose (southern half), Ouray, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, Mineral, Rio Grande, Saguache, Chaffee, Alamosa, Conejos and Costilla.

• U.S. 550 C.R. 302 South of Durango 
Widening, safety improvements, including wildlife mitigation. Two miles, March 2011 to August 2012. $5.5 million, Funded by FASTER.
 


• U.S. 160/U.S. 550 West Durango at US 550 
Bridge rehabilitation. Five miles. April to late May. $479,000.



• S.H. 151 East of Ignacio (Completed Maintenance Project)
Maintenance chip seal resurfacing. May 14 to May 25. 34 miles. $1.4 million, in partnership with Southern Ute Tribe.
 


• U.S. 160 in Cortez, Broadway South 
Concrete reconstruction. Two miles. July through late 2012. $9.4 million.
 


• U.S. 160 and S.H. 145 Junction East of Cortez 
Maintenance resurfacing. 1.5 miles on U.S. 160, 2 miles on S.H. 145. September 2012. $1 million.
 


• S.H. 140 North of Breen 
Shoulder widening, safety improvements. One mile. $1.9 million, FASTER funded.



• U.S. 160 Cortez to Mesa Verde Interchange 
Resurfacing, highway and interchange. 15 miles. $8 million, including $4.6 million in Federal Public Lands Highway Funds.



• U.S. 160 Mancos to Mancos Hill
Resurfacing. Seven miles. Summer/fall 2012. $8 million.

• U.S. 24/285 junction east, at Johnson Village 
Bridge rehabilitation. Summer/fall. $1.8 million.



• U.S. 24/285 Trout Creek Pass, south of Antero Junction
Bridge rehabilitation at MP 222. Late April to late June. $370,000.
