Fireclay Villages, a 26-acre, $80-million transit-oriented development, recently started construction. It is one of the largest developments ever to be built in Murray City, Utah. The project is a joint venture between Strategic Capital Group (SCG) and Miller Development Co. (MDC).  The project is located at 4400 South and 100 West in Murray.

Fireclay Village is a mixed-use development that includes 400 apartments, 268 income-restricted units and anticipated future phases that will include retail, restaurant and office space. The project will be built in three phases during the next five years and will bring 1 million sq ft of apartments and a combined 94,000 sq ft of office and retail business to the city. The 26-acre site is near the Fireclay TRAX commuter rail station and received grants from the Murray Redevelopment Agency.

“Over the next 30 years, we’re projecting that we will add another 1.4 million people along the Wasatch Front,” [an increase of 65%] reports Andrew Gruber, executive director of the Wasatch Front Regional Council at the Wasatch Choice for 2040 recent gathering in Salt Lake City.  Due to traffic congestion, pollution and the loss of open space, more TODs are not only essential but also imminent.
