Design is nearly complete on the Sego Lily School in Murray, Utah.
The new school, designed by Gorilla Design and Envision Electrical Engineering of Salt Lake City, will offer a number of green features, from native landscaping and low-water use fixtures to a solar array on the roof of the learning spaces. Other green space includes a nature and vegetable garden with a greenhouse, a green roof to reduce energy use and an interior courtyard.
The project team is seeking LEED-Platinum certification. A general contractor had not been selected as of early February.
Construction completed on the renovation of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple in January.
The renovation included the interior and exterior upgrades to finishes, new carpet throughout, and the installation of upgraded mechanical systems, energy-efficient windows and a new commercial kitchen. Cameron Construction was the general contractor for this project.
The Salt Lake Buddhist Temple at its current location was originally dedicated in 1962. The remodeling of the temple is the first major refurbishment of the building in the nearly 50 years. The Salt Lake Buddhist Temple was an important center of Buddhism in America during World War II.
In December, the University of Utah selected BHB Consulting Engineers to serve as the structural engineer for its Six-Building Seismic Study and Specialty Care Center at Daybreak.
The Six-Building Seismic Study involves a seismic analysis and cost estimate of six high-priority buildings on campus as identified by the Disaster Resistant University committee. The study includes the Campus High Temperature Water Plant, Orson Spencer Hall, Henry Eyring Building, Merrill Engineering, Biology and Fletcher Physics Buildings.
The Specialty Care Center at Daybreak is an essential facility that requires special attention to the structural design, systems and detailing. The project’s goal is to achieve LEED-Silver certification.
