The American Council of Engineering Cos. of Colorado named Nancy Clanton of Clanton and Associates Inc. as its 2013 Outstanding Woman in Engineering at a special ceremony held Feb. 26 at the Lakewood Country Club. The prestigious award recognizes an outstanding woman in a leadership position for her professional achievements in engineering and as her visible role model for young engineers. Clanton was among six professionals who were nominated by their peers for the award this year.

Clanton is among those who have made meaningful inroads for women seeking a career in civil engineering over the past three decades.

Clanton’s professional accomplishments include leading the Lighting Group during the Greening of the White House charrette, establishing goals for quality lighting, art preservation, control strategies and energy usage for multiple White House years.  
She also chairs three technical committees for the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and authored the Dept. of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria for the Interior and Exterior lighting and controls. She is an Illuminating Engineering Society Fellow, USGBC LEED Fellow and a Rocky Mountain Institute Fellow.

Clanton has chaired the Community Infant Program Thanksgiving Baskets for over three years in Boulder. The baskets provided food for more than 100 mothers and their infant children.

New Faces

Eleven young professional engineers were honored as the council’s 2013 New Faces in Engineering, a program that promotes the accomplishments of young engineers evolving into the profession. The engineers are celebrated for their engineering contributions and resulting impact on society.

The awards are presented annually in February to coincide with Engineers Week, which raises awareness of engineering among the general public and celebrates those who are actively engaged in furthering the engineering profession.
