Four Colorado firms were honored at the 12th annual National Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) competition was held at the AGC National Convention in Hawaii the week of March 12. Winners were announced during an awards breakfast on March 15 attended by over 900 people. AGC of Colorado was represented by four member companies, all of which won first place in their respective categories.

The four companies are PCL Construction Services Inc., Calcon Constructors Inc., Sturgeon Electric Co. Inc. and L.P.R. Construction Co.

In addition, AGC of America also presents a grand award that signifies the best in construction safety excellence for the competition.

Each first place winner is eligible for it, and the Grand Award winner this year went to PCL Construction Services Inc.

The 2012 CSEA competition began in October of last year with companies throughout the United States applying through their home chapters. Applicants were initially reviewed in San Antonio in January by a panel of 42 preliminary judges. The field was narrowed to the top 40 companies in their respective categories to compete at the national level.

Thirty-five companies accepted this year’s invitation and competed at the convention. A five-judge paneled reviewed all participant presentations, selecting the top three companies in their selective categories. They also selected the Grand Award winner.

Companies were judged on their initial application and other safety areas. Some of the areas being judged include an overview of the company’s safety policy, increased employee involvement in safety efforts and management’s commitment to safety.
