The project is in Lilburn, Ga. and was chosen as a Best Project for ENR Southeast.

Built with an integrated project delivery approach, Gwinnett County's new $245-million wastewater treatment plant replaces six aging facilities. Constructed atop an existing facility to maintain uninterrupted operations, the project came under siege in September 2009, when the Yellow River topped its banks and damaged the existing pump stations. The project team worked around the clock to start the new influent pumps—which hadn't been tested yet—and got the plant up and running within three days. Despite the challenge, the LEED Gold-certified facility was completed one year ahead of schedule.
